I've been thinking of getting an Apex Jr, but my tank is downstairs and my computer is upstairs , I don't own a laptop or iPad. It seems from what little I know about an Apex if its not hooked up to your computer you're missing out on most of what a controller can do. I'm I right or not and can I somehow work around not having a computer anywhere near my tank? To be honest I find the Apex to be rather intimidating.

No need for a computer. Get a wireless adapter like the netgear wnce2001. Then use fusion to connect anywhere to your apex.

The only thing to remember is that you have to hard wire it to your router when doing firmware updates. You can't do those via wireless.

Well... You CAN do them wireless, but it is highly frowned upon. The controller doesn't know the difference between a hard wire and a gaming adapter. It is just WAY easier to brick it that way. However I have done one firmware update on my APEX since I bought it many years ago. I wanted Fusion so I upgraded, but I haven't installed another firmware update since. That is the least of the concerns.
