Hello,

I'm on my 5th bucket of Nyos salt and I am starting to realize that all their buckets are really different in parameters. It's mostly dkh for me. I've had one 8.8, had one at 7.8, and others in between. Anyone else notice this or is it just me? Thinking about going back to red sea blue bucket. Reason for me going with Nyos was the higher Mag.
Thanks

What are you using to test parameters?
Hanna and salifert. My bucket said 8.8 dkh and I tested and it was 7.8. Another bucket was labeled at 8.3 and it was 8.8, not bad. Just concerned, just tried of dosing the new salt water to match tank. I'm running alk at 8.5. I did my last water change and it was down to 8.0. I didn't test that new batch. Now I just tested it and the new water is 7.8

Not trying to bash anyone, but I was getting little more consistent numbers with Red Sea blue bucket. Just wasn't a big fan of the Mag.

FWIW Make sure that you’re mixing to a proper salinity with a second reference. The Tropic Marin hydrometer should be what you calibrate your refractometer or digital device to match. The salinity level just 1 ppt off is a big overall parameter difference.

I was using Red Sea blue and nyos interchangeably with no noticeable difference. When I ran out of the “sale” nyos bags I decided that the extra expense wasn’t worth it.

I just got a new bucket delivered today, just to see. Bucket says 8.9 dkh. Mixed 5 gallons for my qt ato at 1.026. Hanna and Salifert results were 8.0.

My current last couple of buckets are 7.8 which is great because I like to keep dkh around 8. 8.9 is a decently sized jump, seems their dkh is all over the place.

I mixed to 1.0265 with a tropic Marin hydrometer at 77F. Alkalinity and calcium perfectly match the ATI ICP label of 9 dkh and 450 ppm Ca.
