Occelaris Clowns

if I were to buy a pair of small clowns (about 1") would they pair up, or am I (if I can) better off getting one that is a little larger than the other?

Coming from Cichlids, the last thing I want is to see the first 2 fish I put in, fighting over who is the domnant figure in the duo.

At that size, one would probably grow larger and turn into the female. However, yes, you are better off getting one slightly larger. It just get's that whole who's in charge business out of the way sooner. :D

I agree with zesty, you need to get one that is larger and your pair will be establish quicker.

I have had two for a long time, one is just over 3inches and the other is close to 5 inches. They were close to size when i put them in, the first day or two they did wrestle a little, dance and click, bite each others tail until one established dominance. Just go a little bigger though, don't get a 3-4 inch and a 1 inch, the big one will probably just kill it, try to get them from the same tank if possible. Start small, the younger they are the better. Good Luck, sometimes getting something they can host on will take a little attention off each other and make the bond easier, such as a type of anemone, i have one though and my clowns don't go near it, they host on a large colony of palys...

Already got them. One of the clowns is a tad larger, and to date, i haven't seen any aggressiveness. They are always side by side or very close to each other in the 10 gallon quarantine. Fed them flakes yesterday morning. Fed them Pellets with garlic last night and tonight when I get home will see if they like Brine Shrimp.

One of the clowns is a pig, eats everything, and fast. The other, darts to the top, then back down...back up to the top, and back down, almost like its testing the safety. Then it goes up, hits the food and goes back to the bottom to eat. Pretty comical.
