Ocean acidification may cause dramatic changes to phytoplankton

Just came across this very interesting MIT study:

The article also made me wonder if fluctuations in pH in our tank are so detrimental because they affect not only the corals, but the whole food chain within the tank?

Very interesting.

I expect the same changes in competition happen with the larger organisms we keep, but we usually control the process manually by removing undesirable or overly growing organisms.
