Hi guys, been a while since I posted anything but I wanted to ask a quick question. I bought a new clownfish the other day. It is almost pure white with a tiny bit of black on the edges of the fins. It was sold under "premium clownfish" and the guy that was working said it was a frostbite. After putting it in the tank and looking at it a bit closer, I think it may actually be some kind of percula, maybe a blizzard? What do y'all think? I don't wanna get it the wrong partner since I've heard percula and occelaris don't typically get along.

Ok, cool. The pictures don't do it justice but the eyes are the only orange this clown has and are brighter than other occies I've kept before, which made me suspect potentially the opposite. Can't tell from striped since he has none and he won't stay still long enough for me to count spines, lol. Maybe it just seems clearer because of his color.

get him to hold still for a close up picture... count the dorsal fin spines.

The True Percula Clown (Amphiprion percula) typically has 10 dorsal spines. These are the spines in the fin on the very top of the fish. The False Percula (Amphiprion ocellaris) has 11 dorsal fin spines. On rare occasions the A. percula will have 9 dorsal spines and the A. ocellaris will have 10. However, in general, the True Percula will have 10 and the False Percula 11. Also, the back part of the dorsal fin is generally taller on the False Percula (Ocellaris) than it is on the True Percula.

i always find spines a bit harder... my percula has 9 spines so she is easy but as you said , not typical. I think this is an ocy though because of its full black/brown eye color

although it doesnt matter, mate it with an ocy or a perc they dont really care most of the time. I have a wild caught percula and a mocha storm (ocy) pair in my tank
