I had an outbreak of parasites that came with the Chromis duo I added November last year, both showed signs but managed to get them into copper treatment before sores appeared.
They went through a 4 week copper treatment through a reef and marine specialist store and I spent that time running my tank through a fallow with a 55w uv sterilisation.
Unfortunately one didn’t make it through (the first one that showed signs) but the other thankfully did.
I left it in the quarantine at the store for a few weeks after the copper treatment ended for them to be able to monitor for me and give my tank some extra time.
He’s been back now for two weeks, eating happily, full of energy, and back to his normal mischief.
One behaviour I’ve noticed he’s picked up since this is what looked at first to be teasing my CUC, often flipping over my hermits for no reason.
Since then I’ve noticed he is purposefully using the CUC on his body to swim against their shells then eggs them into touching him then swims off. I’m not sure if he’s using them to pick off something that I can’t see? No signs of flashing or rubbing against anything else in the tank other than the Hermits. I’m not seeing any scale damage from this activity (which I find surprising, the hermits don’t like it and try pinch) it’s very brief but he’s doing it quite a lot.
Tested salinity, temp, Ammonia, PH, Alk, Nitrates, Nitrites, Phos, Mag and Calcium and all levels are perfect. I run a 15w steriliser.
Tank is 120 L and sump is 75 L, no corals and lights at the moment.
No new fish have been added (it was rough and decided to enjoy what I have - lawnmower, fairy wrasse, fire goby this Chromis)
Other the other fish are doing really well and thriving.
Most extreme version I’ve seen him do was this morning:
Any idea what it might be?
