Omega Vertex 150 break in ?

New skimmer has been running for just over three weeks and have it sitting in eight inches as recommended.

The skimmer is working fine and pulling a slightly wet skimmate but not quite as dark as I would like and I would rather skim a bit drier but cant quite get that.


Just wondering what the normal break in time is for the Omega Vertex 150 ?

It looks about right. Mine took about 2-3 weeks to break in. Mine would never pull dark skim until I went 2 weeks without a water change when I usually go every 7 days. Once it had been 8-10 days past the previous water change the skim really darkened.

What size tank is it on?

90 gallon with a 40 gallon sump

I too have one on my 90 i put it in the recommended water height range more toward the deeper and there is a prob with adjustability. By lifting it up by hand more toward the 7 1/2"- 8" range it appears to operate much better. BRS had it so it could be in depth up 9 1/2" when i got into the manufacturer man it recommends 7 1/2"-8". So beware of water depth. Did more research found someone else with same issue he changed depth but he contacted maker of skimmer and they told him that they actually low balled the recommended tank size and that its actually quite a bit more. They didnt tell him how much more.

I've got the 130 and ended up setting it so the water level was just above the outflow from the stand pipe. Once I found that spot it took off.

Yea thats where i set my 150 letting it break in at that depth still has a tendency to overflow cup also i relocated the muffler took it off the adjust pipe makes the adj soo much easier

If its been 3 weeks, its broken in. How open is your valve? Should be easy enough to dial in now.

Yea it appears its working now but monitoring it valve is about 1/4-1/3 open

Mine has been running fully closed for 3 days once repositioned now looks good
