Well after a 22-year hiatus, I’m now ~ one year in now back into reefing

- All this new-fangled automation, seems like a lot more work than 23 years ago. Way too many failures that should just not occur. I remember enjoying my tank more back than, then fixing it ☹ Vacations remain uncertain events - I need to find a buddy system
- When they say to clean the UV blub sleeve quarterly, they mean it, pic
- Don’t forgot the trace elements when using RedSea Foundation – I just added Foundation ABC for the first six months before getting an ICP after too many coral deaths to find out I had no iodine, Manganese or Iron…. not realizing there apparently are zero traces -…. Ok hindsight seven parts yea yea….22-years ago I only used 2-part so there. Now using the RedSea 4-part and things are much happier
- Ritteri’s sting and are big. Ours now owns 1/3rd of the tank literally. The Ritteri does seem to like its new spotlight as its largely staying put and I've barely turned on yet acclimation still. Thank God as its way to big to continue wandering around
- Buying a turnkey/plug and play RedSea system, isn’t all that turnkey. No return hose provided. The paired skimmers don’t necessarily fit (had to design a skimmer platform of my own to lift 2”), raise ReefMat, etc. etc. etc. umm. RedSea do you have any idea what plug and play means – I wanted less to have to mess with NOT more
- BubbleTip anemones really are weeds, anyone want some LoL
- Aptasia are pretty much unavoidable, no matter how much you try - I had them before with real live rock, I was looking forward to avoiding them with dead rock - NOPE
- I do like tangs, never had them before… and yep PowerBlues are Ich magnets
- No lid or canopy, looks nice and I don’t need a humidifier anymore but boy it uses a lot of makeup water and diamond gobies do jump
- Umm how many cables, powerbricks, etc. can one have??? And no there absolutely is never enough room
- Dry rock is a pain
- Orange coral lenses change the color a bit much, these pics were taken using ReefView glasses - blue but more to true colors I think. Save the full tank shot, the blues are too much so Coral view it is.
- Cleaned my gyre’s a week or so back and removed the anemone guards, yes they get cleaned every few months but the anemone guards were there while on vacation the result was a hurricane. Gyre’s are now at 10%. Alvepora that was doing fantastic, quickly pretty much died even when flow turned down☹ On the otherhand the torches are loving it
- Return pump and UV pump get cleaned tomorrow, hopefully not creating another hurricane
