Hello I really didn’t want to post this but I’m getting frustrated and don’t know what to do anymore. For some reason over and over both of these chalice constantly die back then heal and grow very little and I get all happy and then out of no where they die back almost dead then 3-5 months later recover to just die back again.
120gallon ,60 gal fragtank,30 gal refug, 70 gal sump so about 280 gallons of water.
salt 35ppt
Alk 8.0
Cal 450
Mag 1380
Phos .2
Nitrates 10
Ph 7.9-8.1
I will say I’d like my alk to be more stable fluctuates like between 7.5 and 8.0 threw the day. I have does and trident but for some reason was dosing 70ml a day to keep 7.7 then turned ac on and ph took a huge drop and alk consumption started to be all over. Now does 40 ml a day and won’t drop below 7.9
System been running 10 years have had both these chalice for 2-3 years and show no growth cause keep dying back. All my other corals are doing fine it’s just the chalices. I run 2 g5 7 inch from water on ab+ at 30% which is 70 par. Also have 2 mp40 on opposite side in short pulse at 30%Any help would be appreciated

Are you sure about those par numbers? Mine don't like to much light.

I think you might be right on the par possibly cause after you said this I went back threw my log and found lower par for past few weeks which is when they all looked good now up 20 par from 45-50 to 65-70 could be the difference. Could 20 par make that much a difference ? 70-80 par to high. I e read most lps 100-150 par is ok

It’s just strange to me cause I have other chalice in same par that are fine. This means obviously not all chalice like the same parameters

What par are yours under?

Somewhere around 75, maybe a little less .. Only have a Miami hurricane at this point but it's five years old and been through some huge swings in various tanks.. I almost killed it in two different tanks with too much light ;Facepalm

Wanted to update here. So I turned down my flow of 2 mp40 from 30% to 20% and turned g5 lights down from 35% to 25% from 70 par to 35par. This has made no change. So decided to test all water paramiters again and found nitrates at 2 and phosphates at .21 could this be causing my issue ?

Is 2 nitrates to low for chalice corals and .21 to high for phosphates ?

my nitrates are pretty solid at 5 but my PO4 is all over the place, usually between .03 and .1

You could bump up nitrate a bit but it is basically fine.. phosphate is a little high, not sure it would effect you chalice though.. What are you testing PO4 with?

I use Hanna for phosphates and nyos for nitrates

I have well over 1,000$ worth of chalice that are dying and have no idea what to do. Chalice is my favorite type of coral from my start of this hobby but I can’t seem to keep them alive. I have soooo many other corals that are doing fine. But I will order 300$ chalice and within 2-3 days of it in my tank it goes from beautiful prize coral to half dead showing its skeleton. Very frustrated here
