Right now my tank is empty except for some turbo snails. Some one has offered me 1 black and white clown fish. Can I take the one clown fish or does it need a partner? Also how will it do in a 40 gallon tank? I have only had ocellaris clown fish before. On another note, ever since I got the turbo snails I noticed these red snakish looking things in the tank. What is it? Is it bad for the tank?

As long as your tank is completely cycled I see absolutely no issue with adding a clown fish. A solitary clown will most likely become the dominate clown/a female. If you intend on adding another clown in the future it should be a young clown and not female. A black and white clown is most likely an Ocellaris.

You're probably seeing Bristle Worms and they are harmless.
