Small back story prior to showing the designs and then onto the build of the new tank,
July 2021, I finally became a home owner and such I treated myself to a second hand Red Sea Reefer P650(not place peninsular style). Initially it was set up to be a softy dominated easy to care for reef as my wife was expecting our first child in August later that year. However, as we all know that SPS bug that goes around an bites people.. well it bit me again!
Before I knew it I was adding more flow, more lights and more frags! But the problem wasn't the keeping the corals growing but my own personal gripe I had with seeing my fish swim left to right, 5ft to the right then back again to the left! Having had the luxury to of been diving in a few locations around the globe it just did not seem natural to me! Even though the fish had 2ft front to back to swim they somehow looked two-dimensional and lacked the depth that the natural reef offers! Moving forward 1.5 years of the aquarium being wet, I'd had enough of not being truly happy with my peninsular 650 I pulled the trigger and got it sold!
Backstory over...
NOW onto the build!
So far my designs are as follows, the main display is going to be 40inches long, 40inches wide (DEPTH!) and 22inch high with the overflow being played at 19.5inch.
The thought process behind this 'odd' shaped aquarium is as follows
- Biggest the wife will allow
- Biggest I can fit in the space in my house
- 40inch x 40inch to give the depth perspective however you look at it
- 22inch high and waterline @ 19.5inch to be revealed in later updates!
- Sump TBC!
so the Red sea is now gone, livestock is at my LFS and the deposit is in place for the aquarium i am chomping at the bit to get the build underway!
Current equipment list:
Return pump - Sicce Syncra SDC 7.0
Skimmer - Reef Ocotopus elite 220sss
Flow Pumps - 1 x MP40, 1 x Red Sea Reef-wave 45
Lighting - Ecotech Radion G5 Blue XR30 x1
Dosing - H2Ocean 4 Channel Wifi Dosing Pump
Filter roller - Bubble Magus ARF-M G2
Current Fish list:
1 x Pair True percula Clownfish
1 x Orchid Dottyback
1 x Bangaii Cardinal
1 x Magnificent Foxface
1 x Miss-bar Regal Angelfish (Red sea)
1 x Starcki damsel
Coral list:
- undecided but will predominantly be staghorn dominated
Just as a heads up this will be a slow burn build to begin with because of a knee surgery but it is well under way!
Any questions, fire away!
