Any guesses as to why? Parameters are good as are all other corals. Had this for over 4 years.

What are params? Anything that could have been bothering it? Also could be caused by boring invertebrates (not sure how to solve or identify this without cutting the coral open)

That’s what I’m wondering. If something got in between the lobes. Maybe some type of worm but haven’t seen anything. Puzzling.

by boring I mean bore into. Some invertebrates burrow their way into the skeleton of LPS corals, which can irritate them.

Just a thought.
Looks like it may have been touched by another coral/mushroom.
Any disco mushrooms in your system?
They like to release, float around, and sting whatever they come into contact with before they reattach.

Similar to above comment, my first thought is that another coral fell onto it....

No, no shrooms. And it’s pretty much by itself. Nothing really near it. It’s not even the entire lobe. The top and bottom of the lobe has full color. If the entire coral bleached I’d understand but the fact that it’s just the 1 lobe and only partial is very strange.

Don’t see anything obvious. Think I will remove it and look more closely.
You usually don't see it, because they're inside the skeleton. Could possibly be some other cause though; probably wanna rule out those causes first. What are your params?

Yes that’s why I think I can get better view if I take it out. Can move it around and use a flashlight.
Params are fine: Alk 8.5 Ca 475 PO4 .06 nitrates 18.

magnesium?

Don’t test. Haven’t tested in a couple of years. It never changes. Right around 1450. I do weekly water changes.

I see. Any parameter swings happen recently?
