operculum left behind

Following the death of a turbo snail, his shell and operculum have been picked clean by my CUC, i'd like to leave the shell in there wether it be for decor or hermit housing, but i'm not sure what to do with the operculum. what are the downside/upsides to leaving it/ removing it. I hear it's just calcium carbonate so would that spike any level or just help with natural calcium?

They are pretty inert and wont readily precipitate much back into the water column at standard tank pH. Not going to hurt anything or help anything in any meaningful way one way or the other. I think there are at least 30 or so still in mine over the 8 years its been running, if that helps.

No need to worry about hard bits causing issue, just the soft meaty bits breaking down and causing a nutrient spike, but it seems your CUC has already taken care of that.
