Got some extra cash for my birthday this year and decided it was time for me to invest in a better macro lens. I just ordered a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 for my Nikon. Can't wait!

I bought the international version (it was cheaper) from Canada. It comes with a 6 year Canadian warranty. I'm there once a month so I figure if I need service I'll just take it on one of my trips. Of course since it is coming from Canada it is going to take a while...

Well after screwing up and ordering a Canon lens instead of a Nikon lens, the correct one got here yesterday. I really haven't had a chance to get to know this lens at all, but I'm already really impressed :) Here are a couple of quick shots I snapped today. I'm really impressed by the color I'm getting.

Nice! I'm looking for a macro lens too. Where did you buy?
I bought it from eBay. There's a seller from Canada that sells them for under $300. You need to go to Canada to get it serviced, but I'm there once a month so that's not a big deal for me :)

I've been playing around with the lens more and I'm finally starting to get a feel for it. I went to a botanical garden the other day to mess around in more ideal lighting so I could play with the settings. I think it was a worthwhile trip, here are some new tank photos based on my new knowledge :)

Thanks! It was only $290 on eBay. :) It is the international version ("grey market") which means you can't get warranty service in the US, but you can always ship it to the country it is from. In my case it is from Canada and I'm there every month anyhow :)

Nice shots! I have a 90mm but I can't get my D40 to get nice shots like that.
I'm sure you can! My first pictures looked terrible! I just practiced with it and found settings that work. Now I run my camera in aperture priority and adjust the shutter speed to compensate.
