So I got a colony of Oregon blue tort from a fellow reefer about a month or more ago, it was very blue when I got it but in my tank it has turned more purple. I have it about halfway up in my tank right under my 400w halide. Is it getting too much light?
I will try to find a pic to show comparison.
Any help would be appreciated.

different water params, and different lighting will make any coral chage color slightly, ther is no way to duplicate the tank conditions in two seporate closed systems, it may color back up over time, it may not, that is why i think the naming of corals is pretty rediculous, if it looks good and you want it, buy it, forget the name.

I totally understand that! I honestly could care less about the name it's just what I was told it was. I was just worried it is in the wrong place in my tank.

Jeepguy, this thread really isn't about a hyped up name. The OP gave the name of the coral, in order to get the best advice possible. In fact, at least the name of this coral includes part of it's scientific name.

Acropora tortuosa will change, according to lighting, flow, water nutrients...etc. What type of lighting was this coral under, before you acquired it? You need to try to duplicate that lighting, as much as possible, and then slowly acclimate it to your lighting, by moving it up, slowly, or whatever gets it closer to the lighting you desire.

i wasnt bagging on the hyped up name, i was just stating a personal opinion AFTER i had given pertinent information about the question he was asking, in no way should that, or this be construed as negative, in any way shape or form.

I did however forget to mention an excellent point that you did bring up about the lighting, and position of the coral in the tank i completely agree.

jstuver what kelvin bulbs are you running? In fact i guess I really shouldnt ask that question because ive seen this coral under different wattage and kelvin ratings and it has a (to my eyes) always been very blue. Are you positive its oregon tort? Which in fact (IMO) dont think its an A.tortuosa at all.....maybe a super species of some sort...still after all the wild species that have come in we still havent seen a species remotely like it.
