Well new tank is on a truck so I guess its time to start my build thread. First a little about my current tank. I bought a Red Sea e170 about 4.5 years ago. It has been up and running the entire time and even survived a move back in October of 2019. I had my ups and downs with the tank and struggled with sps for the longest time. When we moved I decided I was going to use the opportunity of the move to really focus on trying to keep sps. In preparation for the move I removed all the BTA’s that had taken over the tops of the rock and a few corals that had gotten really big but were just basic corals. Here is what the tank looks like now.

Well on to the new tank info. I really like cubes and wanted some more water volume so when I came across the IM int 112 I was sold. It was exactly what I was looking for. I have spent some time planning what equipment I am going to run with it and have even already acquired some of it prior to tank arriving bit I will show more of that off as the build comes along. I had a giant colony of Dragon Soul torch that I had been growing and fragging occasionally that had 11 heads that I was able to cut into 7 big heads with the help of a fellow reefer. I sold all but one frag and ordered my rock. I have been using e marco 400 to glue all this rock together for the centerpiece of the scape. This scape has taken me hours to get just right and I am super happy with how it has turned out. I will keep this updated as the build comes along.

Hello fellow oregonian! Looking good. I've got some branch rock I dont know what to do with, curious what you end up doing with yours.
I have some branch left over from my scape, not sure what I will do with the left over. I may end up using some more once I get the centerpiece in or may end up just keeping the scape minimal. There is another local reefer here in PDX that may buy or trade my leftover.

Finally had a little time to finish the stand. Also got my sump I bought for the build out if the garage where I have been storing it. It looks so small compared to the stand. Going to need a check valve for sure. I think it will hold just enough back flow from the tank if the pump shuts off given I come up with a creative syphon break on the return. Excited to actually have some spare room in the stand so I dont need to have my dosing containers and ato res sitting next to the stand like my current tank.

Tank in place, floor trim done. Need to get plumbing done, and crawl under the house and support the floor before I can water test the tank. Also working on running wire from breaker box to give the tank a dedicated plug. So happy to have the tank in place, was starting to feel like I was never going to get it moved.

The plumbing begins. Going with purple PVC, debated if I wanted to swap the in tank plumbing for purple instead of the blue that came with it but decided it wasn’t worth the extra work.

Got all the plumbing dry fit tonight, except for the return, need a few 45’s to direct it around the drain in its way. Super happy that I went with the purple pipe.

Made great progress this weekend, supported the floor under the tank and did a leak test. Sump doesn’t overflow when pump shuts off, has about 3 inches to spare. Best news no leaks!

The tank is running and salty. Got the lights all hung, a Kessil AP9X and 2 Orphek OR3 blue plus strips. Moved over some seeded bio media out of current tank along with a few pieces of rock that had been cooking in the sump. Added some cheato thanks to a local reefer. I had to mix 55 gallons of saltwater at a time so saltwater has been on sand for a 5 days but only circulating for 3 days now. Im surprised im already seeing a few diatoms on the sand, must be because of adding seeded media.

Lights look good brother. Surprised you added chaeto so early.

Quite the window garden you have going there! Is that an alternate hobby?

I debated on adding chaeto now or waiting. Talking with one of my buddies who has an amazing SPS tank he said to go for it since I had a decent amount of seeded media I was adding, some of which has been in my tank that is coming down for 4 years. I can always pull some of it out and throw in other tank if it starts to die off, plenty of nutrients in that tank lol. I also have fed the new tank a little powdered food to give both the chaeto and bacteria something to eat. Going to add some more live rock from existing tank later this week and see how things are doing a few days after. Hopefully the chaeto takes hold and keeps the display pretty free of the uglies. Its all man made rock and pretty minimal in the display so most the bio filtration will be from the sump and the sand. Also want to get that pod farm going, plan on it being a wrasse heavy tank.

The window garden is just some easy to keep house plants. I love having plants around but dont do much to them other then water them. I do have a lemon tree that sits in the window about 8 months of the year that I put a little extra love in but this time of year its outside. Probably going to pick up a few more dwarf citrus trees. I have considered picking up a bonsai or two to play around with.
