Do you think that with the amount of Vodka dosed that the good bacteria was killed off, resulting is the cloudiness you are seeing? Would it not be better just to scrap the current sand bed and start fresh?

Oooooohhhhhhh it was an od of vodka! Yes, I would do that. Better safe than sorryDo you think that with the amount of Vodka dosed that the good bacteria was killed off, resulting is the cloudiness you are seeing? Would it not be better just to scrap the current sand bed and start fresh?
I will be better than ever before you know it! Glad you're continuing forward!
Yes the cloudiness was due to the vodka but then I drained all the water except maybe an inch above the sand and refilled with new saltwater. Today it was almost clear until I blasted rock with turky baster. I was going to do two big water changes to clean sand and die off. Is it necessary to replace sand? Should I do the water changes and then test water and see where water parameters are at? Water change. Big time. Daily until you are back to normal parameterso I have been doing vodka dosing for about a month and everything has been doing fine..... until I set up my dosing pump and put it on the wrong outlet, outlet 3 which is not good for dosing pumps. It did not shut off when it started dosing and emptied about 1/2 of my vodka bottle into my tank. I have been monitoring my apex fusion today and noticed my low ph so I rushed home from work. my water turned cloudy and my ph dropped to 7.36 . When I got home about half of my fish were dead and the rest look to be goners also. I feel like they are just suffering and I should just put them out of their misery but I guess I will wait to see if they make it. I raised my mp40s a little higher to get more surface agitation and am running my skimmer wet which will hopefully help,
Dead
1- yellow tang
4- lyretail anthias

barely breathing
1 purple tang
3 chromis
2 clowns
Actually with no feeding since all my fish died my nitrates are the lowest I've seen in..... well ever. My PO4 is zero. I just need to keep an eye on my parameters and see if I get a cycle. It just crashed so I will have to wait and see how it reacts. I will probably get a couple of snails and a small clean up crew just to make sure they can get what ever is still in my tank.Water change. Big time. Daily until you are back to normal parameter

Yup I overdosed stump remover! Waaaaaay overdosed. Instead of 9gm I put 9 tbsp [emoji23] (I can laugh now...) my no3 was 168.7 [emoji33] . Changed 26.5g, 53g then another 2x 26g and got it down to 20ppm in a couple days. Only annoidc2 acros and lost 1 small one. Sometimes stuff happens or your like me doing stuff when you should be sleeping [emoji12]Are you referring to the vodka? He could have just as easily overdosed with no3-po4-x with the same result... vodka dosing is plenty established and studied by very knowledgeable aquarists.
It wasn't the vodka itself, it was all me, I made the mistake of setting the doseing pump on the wrong outlet on the apex. Should have put it on outlet 4 or 8 which is for dosing pumps. I had already been dosing manually for over a month with nitrates starting to reduce. And you are right, I could have easily overdosed on any other product used. Are you referring to the vodka? I'm glad you caught it in time with minimal side effects. I know way to well of how bad it feels to make a mistake and have your tank crash.Yup I overdosed stump remover! Waaaaaay overdosed. Yeah, I actually caught it a split second after I did it lol. Luckily! I think if I hadn't caught it right away my tank would have crashed too.I'm glad you caught it in time with minimal side effects. I know way to well of how bad it feels to make a mistake and have your tank crash.

Thank you [emoji1] I was over tired at the time and shouldn't have been messing with a chemical that I never did before especially in the middle of the night. Literally as the last drop went in the tank my brain kicked in and thought "WAIT this can't be right #&%$#@!!!!"Glad you caught it in time, you have a beautiful tank. Well done prsnlty.
I think we all have a crash at one point or another. This is yours so hopefully it'll never crash again [emoji3]I wish I would of caught it right away, but here I am.

Oh wow! Well let's hope this is your last [emoji12]This is the second crash. The first one was years back. I forgot which hurricane,Katrina i think, but we had to evacuate for like 10 days. Power was lost and killed everything. The only positive is I work for a power plant at a big chemical company so I had to stay at work for ten days and I brought home over ten grand on that pay check so it helped buy new coral. LOL
