So it's time to upgrade. Currently I have a 48x36x24 180g planet aquarium tank. A week ago I was working on the plumbing and went to loosen a bulkhead in the back of the tank and accidentally nicked the back corner of the tank. It got a small chip. I was told it shouldn't be a problem but I don't want to take any chances on it leaking and getting into a bind.... and loosing all my coral. I could just replace the tank with the same size tank and it would be so easy..... but what is the fun in that. Like the title say, I'm upgrading to a 72x36x24 planet aquariums tank. It will be probably be at least two -three months before I get the tank since I'm still waiting on a quote. LOL. I'm supper excited for this new build. It will sit on a metal stand which will be powder coated like my current set up. Bellow are a couple of pictures of the chip I got on the side panel.

I will be building a metal stand identical to my current setup. (Old pic) the drains will be the same color scheme and will also be using the same sump.

Just ordered my Planet Aquariums 72x36x24 tank and going to go pick up the steel for the stand tomorrow. Can't wait to get the tank in and start the build!!

Currently I have 2 250w MH Radium bulbs powered by M80 ballast and 6 XR15 Radion Gen4 Pros. I will most likely add another 250w Radium and two more XR 15s/gen5

Wow, that’s a lot of light! Safe to assume SPS dominant?

Yes sir SPS dominant. It's does have some zoas, which will all be removed for new tank build

Honestly I didn’t specify. I assumed Planet Aquariums would build it out of proper rated glass thickness

ah gotcha. I’m currently getting a quote from them for a similar sized tank and wasn’t sure what the preferred thickness for those dimensions would be. I bet you’re right that they’ll spec it out properly. Their custom tanks are impressive.

My current tank is a Planet Aquariums 180g and is 0.5” glass

So I decided on my tank and have placed my order. 4-6 weeks is what I was told for completion. Ordered my 3rd MH ballast and reflector. Stand is still being worked on. Hopefully it will be done in a week so I can send it to get powder coated. For my sump I am doing a DIY out of a 60x18x17 glass tank. Below is my sketch of my sump plans. Feel free to critique and give your thoughts on improvements

The space to get the skimmer body out of the sump looks tight. Might be worth a mock up of the skimmer chamber and stand frame to see if you can get it in and out ok. Looking good!

I will definitely do a mock up before I start placing baffles in. Thanks for the advice.

i decided to just not use a baffle directly downstream of the skimmer. My frag and skimmer section will be all in one, no separation.

Starting to get everything I need for the upgrade.
Red pvc, schedule 80 grey fittings and valves, Metal Halide reflector, 250W M80 ballast, additional EB8 for 2nd Apex(backup). Ordered baffles and black aquarium sealant to instal on 60x18x17 sump.
