I have this overflow box and I right in thinking if I buy the pump pictured extend the clear hose from the pump to my overflow box it will not overflow if there's a power cut etc

As a rookie reefer, I would think it still would unless your clear hose isn't underwater in your overflow box. Are you talking about pumping from the tank into the overflow? If it is underwater, the siphon will still be sucking with or without the power, if it is about the level of water in the overflow that should be fine but the experts can jump in here

The clear hose isn't under water the overflow box has a connection ontop of it
