overflow pipe size

i'm preparing myself to upgrade my pipe work. i do not like my pipe work within my tank. My overflow pipe is currently 2", then it Y and goes into 2x 1" pipes, bang in the middle of the back of the tank . To me its bulky and not nice. I think reducuing it to 1" and putting it in the corner. I've had a look and it seems the flow rate for a 1" pipe is between 960 gph - 2200 gph depending on the pressure head. My tank is 150g, x10 turn over would need 1500gph.

What size overflow pipe do you have and would 1" be enough despite what i've found. also only have 1" on the return. Dont ask why i bought the tank with these fittings.

My 75 gallon runs an eshopps L overflow. And has 1" piping all around. I run a current usa eflux 6010 which does 1900 gph, wide open because it feeds 2 1" returns into my tank. Mine is just a t that feeds both. With it set up like this i have to turn my valve on my drain closed just a touch and i get a trickle of flow from my seconday.

I wouldn't feel safe with only one overflow pipe. Minimum I'd run is a Herbie but preferably a Bean Animal with three pipes.

The eshopps l is a bean animal, like i said i tune my main for silence with a trickle coming through my secondary. My emergency is plumbed to my return section

Pump Info:
Up to 2000 gph
Input Size - 1" Slip PVC
Output Size - 3/4" Slip PVC or 1 1/4" Slip to BSPP Union
A 1" bulkhead will flow about 600 gph and a 1.5" will flow about 1200. These are max numbers.
I would go with the 1.5"s if you can fit them. 1.25" are not a common.size.

perfect timing.. currently i am running a version of the Herbie overflow. Part of the upgrade is because i can not get my return pump to match the overflow flow, its about 99% match so after a few days the return pump pumps too much water in then my ATO kicks in, and i end up having too much total volume of water. i use a ball valve but they are not as delicate as gate valves.
here's my plan.
To run a durso overflow with a emergency line.

Would plumbing in a emergency overflow on the same line as the durso cause issues with air being sucked into in?

my thinking is, to T the 2" and reduce to 2x 1.5". one being the dusro and the second being the emergency line, however they will be on the same line

I'm changing my overflow set up to Herbie. how low do you have the overflow pipe/strainer in the tank? i would prefer it as low as possibly to keep it out of sight,, any issues having it low down?

I used 1.5" drains on my bean animal, only because the 15000 L / hour pump had a 1.5 in supply line. It's about the only regret on my build. 1.5" is way overkill and takes up too much space. 1" would have been way better.

Is the pipe you are asking about in your tank or in your overflow box? It should be located in an overflow box. If it is in your tank then you will get driain back when your pump is off. It will drain all the water out of your tank until the pipe sucks air. You can use a flat strainer instead of the long tube type which might help the look.

You can put a gate valve on your return line to slow the flow down a little. It's better to have less going up than max what you can drain down.
