Hello...

I ordered the Enaly OZONE GENERATOR OZAC-PLUS 200 today.
I want to use an old skimmer as a reactor.

I have a 110gal display mixed reef. I have the Eshoops R-300 sump. I have the SCA 302 as my skimmer.
I want to use my old SCA 301 skimmer with the Ozone reactor.

Will this work?
Is it large enough?
What do I need to know that I may not be aware of?

Ozone works best slightly pressurized, with great contact time.

I would make sure the top of the old skimmer has some carbon to get rid of residual ozone and a orp controller to make sure it stays within reason. bRS did a great video on using a old skimmer as a reaction chamber and I would watch that to get some Ideas.

I've seen the BRS video. It was very informative. I have the ozone generator coming and an extra ORP probe to go as a backup to my Apex one.
I wish it had the answer to weather the skimmer i'm going to use is large enough.

Is anyone running Ozone through a skimmer?
If so, can you please SHOW me how you are doing it?

I am trying to find out what size skimmer is good to use and how to run carbon to minimize ozone escaping.

This is the spare skimmer I want to use for ozone.

SCA-301-2.jpg

It is an SCA-301 Skimmer rated for 65 gallons.

I plan on capping the skimmer neck off and having GAC in the collection cup.
I plan on extending the outlet by about an inch and having it drain into a container filled with GAC .

This is hopefully good enough?
Here are pics for scale of size...
The pic shows the skimmer in a 10 gallon sump.

So....
Is it large enough?
Will this work as an ozone reactor?

Thank you!

Your info is indeed helpful.
Do you have any idea if my idea of using the above skimmer as a dedicated ozone reactor will work?
Is the skimmer large enough?

I think your plan would work fine. If you're going to cap the skimmer neck, make sure that the air can still get through to the carbon cap without too many microbubbles going out the outlet. Also, one thing even most people with ORP probes don't do is calibrate those probes because it's a pain, but it's a good idea if you're using ozone. Anyway, if you're not seeing enough effect on ORP from a specific dialed in dose of ozone, just gradually increase it until you like the results.

Thank you again.

I lucked up. I'm getting an aquamaxx ConeS CO2 skimmer that IS ozone safe.

I can run this skimmer as a skimmer AND ozone reactor at the same time if I so choose.

Now all I have to do is decide if I want to run the one skimmer or run one as skimmer and the other as ozone reactor.

you have to make sure the skimmer is ok to use with ozone otherwise the plastic will deteriorate

Thank you.
I know that the Aquamaxx skimmer is ozone safe.
I don't know if the SCA skimmer is ozone safe.

With this in mind, I may just use the Aquamaxx skimmer.
I don't know if both the SCA 302 and the aquamaxx co2 skimmer will fit in my sump.

I need to find out which skimmer works better for my system. That will help me figure which way to go.
If the SCA 302 is the better skimmer for my system then I will keep it employed and try to use the aquamaxx as ozone reactor.
If the aquamaxx is the better skimmer then I would use it as skimmer and ozone reactor.

Anyone know which skimmer is better on a 110gallon mixer reef?
