Painfully slow 45 gallon build.

Your currently rock setup looks nice, the pillar was just a suggestion. My brother did it in his 90, and it turned out pretty good. You might not want the height of a pillar on a 45, but you could use the acrylic bar to help stabilize any stacked rock. This is what I plan to do once I get another tank to make at least one pillar.

i'm going to just epoxy the stacked stuff together. Those shelf pieces at 7" tall at their highest point. I want to leave the top half of the tank open for fish to swim in and coral to grow. I thought about some pillars that come to the water line or higher but I will need to smash some of my rock up to make something that fits in. I'll give it a shot once i get some epoxy.

That’s cool how you did the stand before i have never seen that, kind of reminds me of the old entertainment centers for tvs. Will the tank sit flush with the hood and side of the stand?

West coast is where its at. I am growing tired of Ontario and its lack of money :D I have yet to get out there but i know as soon as i go i am not coming back!

tank is about 12" high but the hood height is at 18" so there is about 6" of air space. I wanted a shallow look down tank. I really like the ones that are already out there. Air space also helps keep the heat down :)

12" high is a cool height. My current display is 12" tall, and its run to work with. I'd probably do something just a tad higher next time, like 18" maybe, but I'm enjoying this one for now.

The more i think about it that is most likly best so you can get some fresh air in there and blow some out so it doesnt get to stuffy and raise your temp.

yeah trying to scape this tank quickly showed me why a 18-20" tank would have been much nicer to work with. Next tank will be super long so the 20" height will look proportionately short.

The 12" isn't too bad though, its fun to work with. Most of my rock is fairly low, but I do have some higher spots as well, and it looks nice.
