Ok so for about 2 weeks my alk was dropping .5 a day, calcium was dripping 5 ppm a day. For the last 3 days they have been the same. No dropping off either. Which means my corals aren't growing. Any ideas? Mag is at 1390. I have a mixed reef. Not a ton of corals but two acros that I want to keep growing...

Congratulations, you have matched your consumption. Or if you followed my direction and dosed KH buffer you have stopped the drop. Now if you need to increase just bump up your alk dose slightly or just leave it alone.:)

I'm a bit confused...

Do you mean its not dropping even without dosing? In that case just keep an eye on it. The corals that need it might just be going through a phase of slowed growth. (assuming everything else seems normal)

Its odd though. Whats the tank size and amount of lps, sps, and corraline?

55 gallon. Sb Reef lights, ammonia 0, trite 0, trates 2, ph 8.2, alk 7.7, cal 440, mag 1340. I have 2 acros, 3 montis, frogspawn, bunch of zoas, lobo, acan, 2 Duncan's, 1 Rock nem

Phosphates?

What do you run for filtration? Try running some GAC and see if it helps some?

I currently don't run any gac, I have siporax and life bio fill. I don't have a good test kit for phosphates....but last time I checked with a friends Hannah it was .03

How old is the aquaria? Do you dose anything (2 part/3 part/ calcium reactor) on a daily base (even now when the alk/Ca are constant? pH morning value (before light on) or evening value (just when light off or dimming down)?

Sincerely Lasse

I just replenish alk and cal when needed. Ph last night was 8.2

Age of Aquaria ? (has importance because in new aquaria you sometime can see a drop of alk and Ca before everything settle down - however this normally make the Mg to dropp too. In some test - a Mg drop can be difficult to see because the scale is too coarse)

Age is about 1.5 years.... don't think that's it..

I haven't tossed anything for the past 5 days...and finally my alk dropped .5..but calcium the same
You could be overdosing (big dose all at one time) and if so, the cal and alk ions can bind together and your parameters can hang at one spot for awhile.

Also, You need to spread apart at least 15mins when you dose your cal to your alk.

What do you mean overdosing? I dont raise my alk more than 1ppm a day... and I wait about 15 min between dosing kh and calcium

If you over dose your #'s can drop or hold instead of going up. The ions will bind together.
If you dosing the same dose that you always did, then it's something else is going on.

Phosphates, Lighting and so on.
