Paranoid Carpenter Wrasse

Strange situation. I've had a Carpenter Wrasse since the middle of May that is currently in my QT tank. He is a young male that is around 1.5 in. I added him to my mt in the beginning of May and he didn't settle in well. Hiding out in the top corners and went down the overflow twice. So I stuck him back in qt and he has been doing fine but he won't come out of his hiding space unless I step away. Should I try going up to the tank on my knees or is this fish scarred for life?

Yeah I mean any fish that goes through tramma seems to hold the scars for a while. I just can't imagine it was too bad going through the pod feast in my overflow. I just feel conflicted about taking the fish back as I don't want it to be a problem for someone else, and for now it is keeping my qt in business between fish but eventually when I am done hunting down the rest of my list during these troubled times I am going to tire of having to feed my qt. So I just wonder if anyone has advice on whether there is a chance the fish will get over its fear or if there might be something I can do to help.
