Nah theyre distracting as ****

Yes, and add to the cost. I'm not surprised so many reefing people would like them though. Look how we are drawn to the colors that come out of the corals using LEDs. It has always been my opinion that LEDs are one of the reasons for the pricing insanity of corals now. Back when it was halides, vhos and t5s it wasn't this crazy. Along come the leds and bring out a lot more "pop" and the interest in the hobby goes up and so do the prices. The first few frag swaps I went to I would have to ask which room they were in at the venue. Now you know!!!! It is the one with the huge amount of blue glow coming from it.

Yea, it’s definitely a bad time to build one. I was planning to go pretty low tier with an rx580 or something, but even those destroy the budget now. It’s crazy how you can’t even find one for the original drop price and they’re several generations old at this point.
My cousin gave me his old pc with a first gen amd cpu and gpu in it, but it can’t really run any of the games I want to play :(

Do you live near a Microcenter. They have been getting nvidia cards in a few times a month. The 3090s usually last a few days but the others go the day they come in. They have also been getting in a few of the new AMD gpu cards.

Mining has really killed the gpu card market for normal consumers. I really wish there was a way for them to turn off the part the miners use but even if there was there is no real incentive on nvidia's part and I don't blame them for making money. Just as an aside, I really wonder how much impact mining had on the whole electricity debacle here in Texas a few weeks back. I'm not sure how prevalent they are now in Texas but I know a couple of years ago I read several articles that there were big warehouses out in the less populated areas that were full of mining rigs and that 1 warehouse was using 2 to 3 times more electricity than a large residential neighborhood. Since there is a lot of accusations of certain areas keeping power for no apparent reason I wouldn't be surprised if these warehouses never lost power.

Update on my mineral oil submerged rig. Got all the tubing installed and Im now just waiting for the oil to get here! Message_1616181629765.jpg

I had to get nitrile fuel line from tractor supply co. The tubing system itself was 50$. The tubing was 30 and 20 for the clamps the tank was 80, the calking/urelthane oil treatment was 30, the pc components were 1300 and the tek cooler was only 10 to make. Id say it cost around 2k to build. I will upgrade the gpu later. You can clean oil submerged pc parts in 99% iso alcohol and they will be like they were never submerged.
