Love this build and the theme. If you make another trip the coast please consider helping out a poor landlocked ohioan with some photos of the coast and your collecting setup!!! :)

@Smarkow, you got it - I'll try harder! Candidly I get so excited about collecting and being in the moment that I too often forget to take pictures. My avatar image was from a collecting trip on the FL gulf coast in 2016.

Dont let thise freshwater guys see this ;)

Thanks! Although most of my many years surrounded by glass boxes have been focused on breeding fish in functional tanks and not on aquascaping, I definitely appreciate the beauty of a well-scaped tank regardless of the salinity!

What neat memories! I still remember flipping rocks and collecting crayfish with my older brother when I was little - still great thoughts!
That brings back memories. Crayfish, newts and salamanders for me in upstate NY. Grew up by a pond and a bog.

Great stuff! One of the interesting things to me about crayfish in NY is the limited diversity. There are only about a dozen in NY as opposed to over 80 in Tennessee so it makes the ID process a lot easier!!!

Yo @Peace River , I hope your having a great night.

I gotta tell you that tank is looking like a museum piece. We have a discovery place in Charlotte. It’s kinda like a kids museum with lots of different stuff from chemistry to biology. Slip you tank in there and it blows away the others.Well done .

I always forget are cray and craw fish the same. Cause I am a big fan of craw during mardis gray. pinch the tail and suck the heads. Send me some.?

Thank you for the kind words!

Yep, crayfish, crawfish, crawdads, freshwater lobsters, mountain lobsters, mudbugs, or yabbies are pretty much all the same critter, but it helps us know where someone's from by what they call 'em!

I’ll go along for the ride... I love this tank. Looks like freshwater but is salt. Incredible!

Thank you for the kind words! My diversity of aquascaping backgrounds definitely shown through on this tank!

It has been a little while since I updated this build thread so I wanted to provide an update. Life has been good, but very demanding lately. Additionally, much of my fish-related time has been taken up with general care and maintenance of all of my tanks, setting up and cycling three other tanks (and adding a pair of clownfish to one of them), and attending the grand opening of the WWC megastore.

As far as what has been going on with the 55g that this build thread has been focused on, the main change was the addition of two full sized Gulf Killifish (Fundulus grandis) - although it isn't a great picture, in my next post you can see the gold spangling on their sides and the yellow stripe on the outline of their tails. When the males get into breeding colors then they can become even more striking however in the wild they are often a generic brownish gold color. They can be readily identified from comparable fish when collecting because of their full bodied cigar shape. I find it interesting that these beautiful fish are rarely considered an aquarium fish and are widely used as saltwater bait fish.

In 2016 I caught a few of these in Tampa Bay and brought them home and bred several batches in a 55g using an extra large spawning mop before rehoming both the adults and the offspring. Somehow these two avoid the process and have been with me since that time. They are active fish and eat a range of food including frozen (which they love), high quality flake, and medium sized marine pellets.

Well this weekend I did take down the 8 outdoor tanks for the season so there is that. ;Shy

This is a fun one to follow along. Love the killifish. I had to look them up to learn a bit about them.

Thank you for your kind words and for reading through the build thread! I really wanted to try something different and so far, although far from perfect, I have been pleased with the results. Killifish are an amazing group of fish - some of the FW species are super colorful and most of them can be housed in small tanks.
