More than likely, not an oyster, but a giant clam. Google "pearl of Allah" or "worlds largest pearl" for a couple of other examples.
The rather unfortunate thing about this is that there's been a gold-rush on tridacna gigas in chinese waters of late, to the point where fishermen are using the prop wash from boats to blow away parts of the reef to find the shells, which sell for big money in some asian cultures.
