Do peppermint shrimp eat LPS once in a while? I saw my peppermint shrimp picking at one of my lobos last night...not sure if it's something to worry about.

I had one go rogue. I thought it was not eating but just picking at something else. But after it ate my acan, spiny clam, and pulled a bunch of duncun heads, I removed it. Death stopped. So I beleive they can eat coral.

I dont trust those things anymore. I had a zoo colony and bought a pair of peppermint shirmp and the next day I woke up to my zoos totaly destroyed. Plus you have to worry about the possibility of getting a camel shrimp because they look pretty similar.

That's not good! How did you catch it? Mine hides all of the time...even at feeding time.

i had one eat an entire colony of acans once. never again will i ever add one to a tank. they are really hard to catch as they are very timid and only come out at night. i had to take my rock out to get it.

I have only had them eat acans.

Enough though where I will never use them again unless I am having a huge aptasia problem which hopefully I can continue to avoid in this new tank.

This technique for trapping shrimp works great but it may require a few days.
How to catch Peppermint Shrimp using a DIY fish trap.

I used a similar trap to the one described above, but it was just a 20oz coke bottle. Cut at the smooth part and inverted it back on itself. I didn't even glue it fit so well so that I could use it again. Just put some pellets in there and it was in there this morning. I was actually trying to catch out some crabs and not the shrimp. But only took one night. Maybe skip feeding the tank a couple days too so he is hungry.

I just put mysis in a net. It took about 6 weeks. The trap seems a lot better and less time consuming. And you can see when its caught!

I caught the little guy last night...woke up at 2:30am, checked the trap and he was in it! I'll bring him in to the LFS today. Thanks for the help!

I haven't witnessed it first hand but I'm really begin to suspect my peppermints of eating up my hammer coral at night.
Either them or the hermits, but I'm new to all of this and haven't witnessed either one.

Oh yes they eat anything they can get their little claws on... lil jerks! We have two in one tank, female is holding eggs and must be hungrier than a hippo bc she eats anything! I caught her tearing up a hammer head, this morning eating a hermit crab freshly killed and possibly even the mouth to our brain coral
