Most likely he was hungry. Do you feed him? There's still one head left so it can bounce back. (but not with a hungry peppermint in there)

I doubt peppermint shrimp eat a healthy hammer head. Most likely coral degraded and opportunistic shrimp finished it off.

I just turned on the lights and I've caught him in the act.

I dont feed just the pepermints, but they catch the mysis, last night was 1 one night I didnt feed them

The hammer polyp that he ate did kinda look like this one a little bit, but overall the coral has been healthy

I had one in my biocube. My blastos were perfectly fine when I fed the tank before lights out. In the morning I found my blue raven missing a number of heads. There was only the peppermint in there. (a true peppermint, btw)

I moved the blasto to a quarantine tank and started feeding the peppermint directly. After about a month I reintroduced the blasto which had been recovering nicely. I never had anymore incidents after that. But I always had the fear of him going rouge again. I think he died from a bad molt about a year later. I did not replace him. lol

Excatcly how it happen to me, I just turned on the lights and saw the shrimp eating !!!!!

I don’t keep shrimp anymore. Peppermints are known to be risks to lps especially torches and hammers. The behavior you saw is completely normal for them

I have not caught peps eating any LPS, but I have caught they eating rock flower anemones.
I bought up a collection of ultra rock flowers from a local reefer, and they got them all.
