I recently had introduced some type of pest into my aquarium on accident. I’m not sure if this came from a water change or a coral but in the last 3 weeks I have seen both aptasia, pineapple sponges, and this thing exploding over my sump and overflow box.

Looks like a spider web with tube worms coming out of it. Size ranges from a dime to a half dollar coin. Never seen anything like it.

Would have never guessed it to be a sponge. From the little I did find sponges can be near impossible to identify specific species.

Are their cons, outside of being an eyesore, to letting them stay in the tank?

Eyesore. They are found in areas of low light and/or water flow
