I love black and have run black. I then went to salt and pepper effect and then eliminated black sand. . . reason: It always ends up in my magnet cleaners. Some black sand have magnertic qualities as they are made up of magnetite and hematite. I do not know the exact composition but it is known that it can be either, or both with other natural materials. Both magnetite black sand and hematite are oxides of iron. These are rather complex inorganic compounds that can occur in various forms.

I used caribsea Hawaiian black live sand in my current reefer 250. Ran a tunze very strong magnet in it and didnt have anything stick. Time will tell if I have other issues but love the look so it will stay for now
