Petg hf and cf reef safe?

So it’s time to order more filament. Bambu now has petg hf which supposedly prints cleaner and faster but I have no clue what’s been added to it and’s if it’s reef safe. Anyone know? Or could check into it? My vision and the lack of accessibility on their site makes it impossible for me. I was also curious about petg cf. Thanks!

Just to be clear, I’m kinda stuck on Bambu as they have the rfid tags so the printer, and I, know what the filament is. I can’t see to read so I’m stuck with them.

I'm not sure what makes hf pri t better, and a quick Google search didn't yeild any results. If I had to guess, I'd say it is a blend of pla and petg. But just a guess. Both are reef safe but because pla is plant based, it will degrade in saltwater over time.

I just read on their website that the petg hf is a more flexible, higher speed petg. It has 1-15% fillers and is not water soluble. Here is the page, at the bottom is the sds sheet and other info:

Thanks! I couldn’t find any info myself, other than hf = high flow. Nowhere, that I could find, does it say what it is. They discontinued their petg basic.

I'm not bamboo literate, but I thought for sure that you could use any filament with their printers.

You can. There’s already presets for a ton of others filaments. My specific issue is my vision. Bambu has rfid tags that are automatically recognized in the ams unit and populate the slicer. Since I can’t read what every filament is, especially once out of the packaging, it’s all but impossible to identify. I can see color, but don’t know if it’s pla, abs, asa, petg. The rfid thing is Bambu specific and really what sold me on them, being blind as a bat.

Gotcha. The petg hf appears to be a new petg and should be good for tank use. I just ordered the A1 combo today, so I am excited to try it all out. I have a Creality Ender 3 v3 ke right now.

I should also add that the slicer is not really accessible to the blind and visually impaired. The entire section where you can select other brands filament presets, or manually enter filament specifics does not work with a screen reader. Making that aspect totally useless. Having the rfid on each roll of filament, where it automatically populates all the info is priceless to me. Also, having the function to automatically switch to the next roll when out is pretty cool.

The rfid is attached to every refill. It’s on the cardboard. Also, there’s a notch in that cardboard and a tab on the reel. When you can’t see, and don’t know this, you get a massive spaghetti mess as the filament explodes off the reel as it spins. I found that out on my first refill….nightmare. But hey, I got to search and print the pasta maker filament spool winder that I’ve used exactly ONCE!

Thanks guys! Ordered up a sixxer of the hf. It was on sale at four or more. I want to try out the cf but it’s a bit more pricey and not on sale. When I first started printing in petg, I had stringing, blobs, and adhesion problems. I found that I had to really, and I mean really clean the nozzle and bed. Like clean room status. I also had to toss it in the dryer for a couple hours each time I used it. That and I also think they had a firmware update fix some issues and probably has some effect on why they ditched petg basic I’m guessing. I’m not too thrilled about having to dry out the hf before printing but I was doing it anyway. This is where I wish they had a heated ams! As it is now, unless I’m positive about what I’m working with, I have to place the roll in the ams to let it tell me what it is, remove it, place it in a dryer or if needing more than one roll placing them in the oven. I setup the sunlu dryer with a Bowden tube and splitter to feed directly from the dryer but that’s a nightmare as the rfid only works when using the ams. The external spool portion of the slicer does not talk to me, so I’m flying blind. I use my phones Ai app or the be my eyes app (basically volunteers that can see through your phones camera and tell you what they see and where to click/type) to have someone help me. It’s an unnecessary process that’s not fun, so I avoid the external spool at all costs. ABS seems to like being constantly heated while printing though and why I avoid abs for the most part.

What I can say is it prints great for me. It does have to be well dried. I have a sunlu 4 spool drier and then use dessicants and a humidity sensor in my ams. My humidity there stays at 10%. Once I see that bump up to 11% I change out the dessicants to maintain dryness. Doing this has kept things printing well. As for safety of the material I guess only time will tell. Guess we can circle back in a year and reassess.

Yeah, I just fired off some prints hf yesterday…. Must faster print times, zero stringing or nozzle issues, and very smooth (just like pla, it didn’t have that coarse texture feeling that regular petg has). Time will tell but I like it as far as printing is concerned. I only have a single dryer but I don’t print a lot. A heated ams would be nice!
