It’s a unicorn then

What do you mean? You mean hydroxide? Close to it, yes. One can use weird chemicals that form hydroxide in the water, such as sodium oxide, but they are expensive and no better.

Did it work?
The pH went up a tad.

I have not used it since the trial. I don’t want to get stuck with a habit of using additives to make little changes that don’t make much difference anyway.

Where is your pH running? Unless your aiming for faster growth so you can hurry up and start selling frags it's not really worth the effort IMO. I was 8 years onto the hobby before I even tested pH. I put a Milwaukee monitor on my acro tank just because I was curious. This tank is currently running 7.6 low with a peak of 7.9 I get 7.8 - 8.2 in warm weather when windows are open.

Coral seem happy to me but I haven't told them how low the pH is ;)

Nice corals
I must admit in the 25 years of this I’ve never paid that much attention either but since I’m running out of things to tinker with I thought I’d do everyone’s heads in and keep making posts pretty much all leading to the same thing

Jokes aside, I’m 7.8-8 and currently I’m having my first surge ( or kh drop ) since the 10 months ago I reset it ( it’s 8 years old really) so I should see where this goes first because obviously messing around now when it’s stable will create more bad than good

pH seems to be one of the new fads. A few years ago I hardly ever saw it mentioned now I see multiple posts a day about it.
I get the tinkering, I like to tinker myself also which is why I added the monitor lol. I did add a skimmer and ran an air line outside but it made no difference so I pulled it back out and now I'm tinkering setting up a new tank in the bedroom :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: ,

Funny
I thought about having a bedside clown / nem tank just 50 ltr or so but I may be moving soon and then it’ll be 2.5m tank which I can’t wait to get started on

I think the policing was with good intent more to help you from chasing your tail than actually policing your number of posts.

No it’s fine , I get used to the people who have awesome tanks after years of asking questions and finally have the recipe but don’t want to share

Happy reefing
