As far as the original question.....

I've been using ACE brand muriatic acid for many years to lower the ALK in IO. I have never had an issue I can attribute to using that. I do make sure to mix and aerate the water well before using(many days actually) it to bring the PH back up.

The provided info says 400 calcium and 11 dkh vs RC 14”3 dkh and 440 calcium
I was going off memory for RC, I've never actually used it.

I find it mixes closer to 420-440 regardless of what the printed info says. I test every batch I make, and have never needed to add CAL.

I've been using it so long and so confident in what it mixes up to, I add the acid right after I add the salt, and test later. I'm never too far off.

My tank sucks the alkalinity out of the IO to fast to even worry about it still have to mix reef builder in my make up water. To keep it at 8.4 or close.

Thanks Randy. Think it’s okay on the coral? Def let the aeration take place for 24 hours to give pH a chance to balance back.

Aside from the temporary pH lowering, there's no drawback, but I wouldn't do it in tank due to the sudden pH drop.

Never flex, just always provide proof that stuff can work. My tank is no where near what some other have here.
Good deal. Nice tank
