What are you checking pH with?

If its a meter is it possible its not calibrated?

Please post all other known parameters from most recent test.

According to my Apex, I hit 8.6 every few days and my stuff is growing just fine.

thanks for answering. I use a labcon ph test, as I don't have any others I don't know if it's right.
However some corals and anemone are not very well these days, which I believe could be that.

If you aren’t dosing something that has a really high pH then your pH is likely not really that high.

Maybe try increasing your temperature a little bit. I always try to be in the 25-26 degree Celsius range
What kind of animals do you have in the tank?

Hopefully your salinity reading is correct as thats the most crucial. If thats not in range, most of everything else will look skewed from an element standpoint.

I agree that pH is never too high in any ordinary reef tank not using high pH alk additives.

IMO, even if accurate, pH 8.6 is not high enough to warrant special action. I generally recommend pH 7.8 to 8.55, and the main issue at the high end and a bit higher is accelerated precipitation if calcium carbonate.

77-78 is a good starting point.

Get a better test kit like salifert or Hanna.
