phosban reactor help

so ive had my reactor up and running for about 3 months now if not longer and i was unaware i had to change the GFO on a near regular basis. i went to go buy more of it (i have a pretty decent diatom outbreak right now) and i couldnt find the type i had been using so i purchased NPX bioplastics made by 2 little fishies for this reactor. However i cant get it to tumble at all. is there somethng i could be doing wrong? is it possible this new material is just heavier than the gfo i was using before and needs a more powerful pump?

2 different products. One is gfo and the new one you bought are biopellets. Biopellets need to tumble for it to work. There are specific reactors biopellets use or you can modify yours. Lot's of videos on youtube

the biopellets were made for this reactor. and the GFO is what i was using before and had it tumbling no problem. but this stuff (the ones that the reactor is actually made for, wont tumble) i think i may need a larger pump due to it being large than the GFO was

It's not GFO. I believe (and don't know for sure) but think it's simply Biopellets.

Yea tumbling gfo takes really no effort woth pump speed but pellets are significantly heavyer so you should look into an mj900

Def bio pellets. Lots of good info on how to use them on this site. they are very different from gfo you will not see any changes right away since the pellets take time to build the bacteria needed.

Also dont run it without them tumbling for more then a week it may cause some problems, just makr sure you dont over do it with the amount of pellets and start with half the recommended ml

i was able to fix the issue, i forgot that the pump had a flow restrictor on it due to the gfo getting thrown everywhere. The biopellets or whatever two little fishies calls it; is now tumbling around nicely.

Biopellets do have to be used in conjunction with a skimmer. If you can, get the exit hose of the reactor as close to the pick-up port of the skimmer.
