I have a 10-gallon nano reef tank. My tank is a heavy user of nitrate and phosphate. I'm adding potassium phosphate, adding small doses 7 times a day. I was wondering if people who use phosphate add a single dose or spread it out throughout the day.

English is not my first language, so please excuse any mistakes.

I see no reason to use a dosing pump to spread it out beyond a single dose, but there is nothing wrong with doing so.

Using a single dose, wouldn't that increase the phosphate too much at that point? I'm only talking about 10 gallons.

I do a Hanna test, and if I don't add another small dose, the phosphate drops to 0.

How much do you dose?

I have dosed 0.1 ppm phosphate at a time to my tank when dealing with dinos.

between the sum of all my daily doses, I add a total of 0.68 ppm per day

The largest amount in a single dose is 0.12 ppm

Phosphate, right?
That does not seem right. How much of what do you dose?

I was dosing phos by hand everyday a few times a day. Now I got a dosing pump with hydros and it auto spread my daily amount through out the day and it has just been so much easier to eliminate one more daily routine

Sorry, I did the math wrong. These would be my hourly doses. I use a Versa pump. The daily total in my aquarium is 0.102 ppm.

Is it continuous dosing throughout the day? Do you add higher doses during the photoperiod?

Nope I just dose 150ml of trisodium phosphate and it evenly distributes that over 24 hours. I keep my phos around.15 so I don’t really worry so much about it dipping during the photoperiod :)

I think it’s ok to dose that all at once each day, but a dosing pump may (or may not) be better, spreading it out.
