Hello,

I currently have a 70 gallon system that was cycled with live rock/live sand and has since been up and running with corals since August and fish beginning September. I currently have about 25 corals, mostly SPS and 9 fish. All fish and corals are thriving. Also a CUC of trochus, cerith, Nassarius, urchin, cleaner shrimp. I have to dose 2ml of NeoPhos to keep phosphate level @ .08-.1

I’ve recently noticed more algae growth - combo of turf/Ulva and maybe GHA.

My question is - is dosing phosphate fueling this even though it’s keeping the nutrients in balance @ 100/1?

When i reduced phosphate dosing by 50%, my phosphate dropped to .05

Current parameters:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10
Phosphate: .05 (was .09 until I rescued phos dosing)
Alk: 10.6
Calcium: 450
Magnesium: 1400

Ratios for nitrate and phosphate are irrelevant and useless.

Algal growth is limited by predation, resource availability, and competition. In a healthy reef tank, resource availability should never be limiting for algae as that would also limit corals.
