Can anyone suggest a good phosphate removal media that doesn’t require a reactor to be effective. I’ve tried a few different types of GFO in a media bag and placed the bag in a filter cup . It’s not very effective. I’ve been told gfo is effectively useless unless it’s tumbling in a reactor . So is there any media out there that anyone can suggest?

We use rowasphose in a high flow area and it works fine...what types have you tried?

If you have a filter sock you can put the rowa in a panty hose and put the oanty howls filled with rowa in your filter sock.

Rowaphos in a mesh bag in a chamber in my sump strips phosphate just fine in my tank.

I have a manifold plumbed into my return and still don’t use a reactor

Phosguard works pretty well in a mesh bag. It’s aluminum pellets instead of granular bits like gfo. It exhausts much faster but works pretty quick as long as you put it somewhere with good flow.
