Hey guys! I'm in the process of starting up my new 1,000 gallon system and the water is fully cycled. I am just finishing up the quarantine of my first batch of fish and will be adding them at the end of the week. My PO4 is above .9 on my Hannah Checker. Is it safe to use a significant amount of lanthanum to reduce my phosphates prior to adding everything into the tank? Will it harm any of the beneficial bacterial that has accumulated in the tank?

I realize this is about a week old, but using Lanthanum to lower PO4 is no problem for beneficial bacteria.

no harm but I would dilute the dose out in gal of water and dose ove time instead of 1 time. Some fish dont like it and show heavy breathing as they filter the crystals out of their gills. It will also leave a lot of white residue that will pancake itself on heaters poweheads pumps etc. Use 100 micron filters and change them every so many days till it all balances out.
I have been using LC for 25 years now.

Yes! Solid advice. My understanding was that the tank didn't have fish yet, but that may have changed since the question was posted.

True, I missed the part, but I will still advice to filter it all out and let it settle, Even if the fish are added later than the LC dose, crystals are still in the water suspended and will cause some fish to panic.
