Photo fight between Todd and Brian

and you guys are using the exact same camera? exact same lens?

i'm not familiar enough with nikons......but i'd check your exposure settings (i.e. Av/Ev). ISO is the only other thing off the top of my head that can cause that kind of graininess (unless something is wrong with the censor)

If you're not using the same camera, maybe try that to see if the results are in the operator or in the camera/lens combo. That should help get to the root cause of the mystery. I'd also second the exposure settings (lightening bolt on Canon dSLR's). I somehow had mine set on -1/3, so I was losing color and everything was darker than it should have been. I could fix some of it in post processing, but if I start with a better shot, post will only bring it out better.
 
Look out todd i moved on to some fish, lets see what you can do there lol....

For reference, I have a Canon Digital Rebel XTi with 100mm Macro/Tripod, all are at ISO 100 with f11 to f32.... Maybe I need to speed it up a bit?
 
I am down but not out!

This weekend I will be spending some time and messing around with my settings a bit. I got a few pointers from a pro to so watch out.
