Photo fight between Todd and Brian

Brian and I have the exact same camera. We both shoot with Nikon D70s with Sigman macro lenses.

He uses very different techniques and settings than I. So I will take the first shot here one Club Zoa.

I agree. The funny thing is he doesn't use a tripod at all and this is what he gets:confused:

Maybe he will tell us his settings so we can all wonder.......

I took this pic at least a year ago in my old tank, even this one is clearer than the pics of today.

We didn't need to Brian, Jeremy was able to pull all of the pertinent info right from our photo's.

Brian does have better light in his "sweet" spot. I have yet to got down as low as he has but I am awefully tempted.

hmmm, i'm not at home.......thus not able to see the settings the shots were taken at......but i can see some plusses and minuses on both sets of pics.

but overall, i think skyhigh's look better......sharper.

one thing i notice on both....is there is very noticable graininess in the pics IMO. Nikon's are terrible in this respect IMO in regards to showing grain at any ISO higher than 400. A big reason why I like canon dSLR's more.

also, some of stoney's pics are overexposed in some areas.....but thats more about technique and post-processing IMO.

can ya'll describe what the difference is in the setting you use? (since i can't see them w/out a program).

skyhigh....that one is very good. i like that....might go 1-2 more fstops up just to compare...i usually like to at least get 1 full polyp of whatever coral i'm viewing in the focal plane...but thats just my personal preference in viewing pics.

stoneyscoral....that pic is either digitally cropped/magnified too much, and/or at too high of an ISO on the camera as i can see a significant amount of grain. its also too overexposed IMO. the colors look nice though.


this is JMO.....but if I owned a Nikon camera....i would never go above an ISO of 400 as there is just too much grain IMO.

That is the mystery here. Brian has his ISO at 800 and an F2.8. I did it his way and couldn't get a really sweet photo. Of the 10 photos I just took none of them were really that great.

I like to get at least one full polyp in a pic to. A nice colony shot and then a close up is the ticket.

I will keep trying.
