I’ve been using Tropic Marin Pro Reef in mine but recently ordered a bucket of Nyos Pure to try it out. It seems pretty interchangeable especially since I’m only doing daily 1% AWC.

When you look at the ICP reports of TM and Nyos they look remarkably similar. Almost suspiciously so :)

If you run your alkalinity at 8dkh and use 7dkh salt….your alkalinity will go from 8dkh to 7.9dkh after a 10% water change.

You and your testing equipment can’t even detect that change

Yeah, except every single time you do a water change with a lower all salt your tank slowly drops unless you’re compensating somewhere else . Come on you know that!

You should be dosing to keep alkalinity stable throughout the week. You should know that!

I've been using ESV salt, mostly, over the past 20+ years. It comes in 4 parts: Dissolve NaCl first, then MgSO4, then Solution A (Alk and negative elements), then Solution B (Ca and positive elements). It mixes clean and quick, and I'm more confident about getting well-distributed trace elements.

I used to buy it by the pallet or pick it up from ESV in Long Island (when I lived in N.J.). Now, I wait for it to go on sale from BRS when the price is reasonable.

I switched from Tropic Marin Pro Reef to Nyos Pure. Nyos mixes at higher levels that are at the parameters I want to maintain. I am sticking with Nyos.

I was out of the hobby for 8 years and used ESV in the past. I’m now using it again now and love it. Why? Because it mixes clean and fast. And there’s no chance of stratification (not sure if that’s a real thing). I know it wasn’t one of the 2 choices, but wanted to share my positive experience. I’ve also had great success with Fritz RPM and Reef Crystals. Why’d I switch? Who knows? It’s a hobby :)

The great salt debate! Pick the salt with the prettiest packaging and roll with it.

I don't have a santa badge, and excellence award badge or a thread of the day badge and I'm not an app user or a supporting member, however I do have a my tank thread badge so I guess that makes me know what I'm talking about. It's all in the packaging.

tropic marin pro for me. I like how fast it dissolves and how quickly you can use it after mixing. It stores well too
