Over 50,000 eggs??? That's a lot of mantis shrimp. Surprising you don't see more of them in the trade.

Over 50,000 eggs??? That's a lot of mantis shrimp. Surprising you don't see more of them in the trade.

The plankton are cannibalistic. They probably wipe out each other before being dispersed out into the water column. Once they are big enough to collect they live in burrows which can be hard to find and remove the mantis from without killing it.

Not only that, since they're plankton they become food for numerous amount of other organsims as well. I've heard mantis shrimp tastes pretty good. ;)

Definitly one momma that I would not want to mess with. Definitly will watch the link when have some extra time, from what I have seen on the beginning looks interesting.
