Phytoplankton - Why dose 6-10 species products?

I've been searching but not coming up with an answer to the following:

Why is dosing a phyto blend of 6-10 species more beneficial than dosing 1-2 species that I could grow myself?

different particle sizes and different nutrient profiles could mean better growth of a wider variety of things that would feed on it. in theory.
