Good afternoon everyone and happy Holidays!

Somewhat new to the hobby, somewhat experienced. My dad had a 90 gallon reef tank back when I was growing up, so I'm familiar with saltwater aquariums and livestock, but never had to deal with cycling a tank / stocking / care / etc. Moved back to south FL and grabbed myself a little 10G Innovative Marine AIO to get back into the hobby on a smaller scale. Long story short, have had some mixed results with setting up my new tank but hoping that it will settle itself out.

Currently in the tank are 10lbs of CaribSea LifeRock and Fiji Pink sand, and a heater of course. Started the tank cycle after letting the tank settle a few days with some MicroBacter Start XLM, and added in a Gladiator Clown I purchased from the LFS that serviced our childhood tank. Clown made it about a week, but never really ate and appeared stressed most of the time even after proper acclimation (temp first, then slowly mixing tank water into bag). Dosed some Prazi into the tank as he was breathing rapidly but this never helped him as much as hoped, unfortunately.

Did a water change to remove as much of the praziquantel as possible, dosed XLM again, and a few days later got a Blue Chromis. Chromis ate some on day 2, but didn't survive the second night. Now, just keeping the tank empty and dosing in Microbacter7 daily for a month to see if that solves things.

Excited to share results and progress with everyone here on Reef2Reef, and best of luck to you all and nice to be a part of the community.

Best,
Jose

Are you not testing Nitrate, Nitrite, and Ammonia levels during your cycle? Do not add fish until the cycle is complete i.e. your ammonia is ZERO and your tests show that the bacteria is turning the ammonia into Nitrite and subsequently into Nitrate. You should dose ammonia or just throw flakes in that will decay into ammonia. Put in some inverts/snails during your cycle instead of fish. You are just cooking a fish's gills during a cycle with ammonia. The goal is to establish a nitrogen cycle, and putting a fish through that, especially if the bacteria are blooming, is not the way unless you know how to properly complete a fish inclusive cycle.

Bulk Reef Supply has amazing education material on youtube, check em out.

Goodluck and happy reefing!

Yea, testing every day for these! I must have misunderstood the BRS series, since I thought you could add fish immediately to a new system if you add in the MicroBacter Start. Unfortunately live and learn, but yes I am testing water daily
