While working on lights and fuge, I got an Ocean Tang but he was a sick fish.

20180122_175040-jpg.657559

I'd had him for about 3 weeks at this point. He was healthy looking and had weight when I purchased him.
I did not QT because I don't have a QT tank big enough for him.

I was advised to get him out the tank to treat him in a hospital tank but I could not get him out due to having Sooooo much rock.

The Tang had flukes and a bad bacterial infection. I tried to treat him in the tank with Melafix.
It did NOT go well.

15167571751031064362699-jpg.658328

I turned the skimmer back on and re started the carbon reactor to get the melafix out. I noticed my carpet spewing this white stuff out. I did not pay it much mind but a few hours later, I came downstairs to check the skimmer and the whole tank is milky. I could hardly see through the water to the back of the tank.

All fish seemed to be fine except the ocean tang but he was no worse.
All corals seem to be fine. My bta seems to be fine.

I wanted to catch the Ocean Tang to treat him but he just darted into the rockwork where I couldn't get to him.
15167657233721550822044-jpg.658395

I tried to treat him in the display. I used metroplex + kanaplex + furan 2 + focus.
I still couldn't catch him but I was treating the food and he was eating.

Jan 27th, 2018
I finally caught him but I think it's too late.
He was near the surface swimming in tight circles and bumping into rocks. I dipped him in freshwater and the flukes just started coming out of him. He's in a hospital tank now but I'm not expecting him to make it through the night
NO PICS

Feb 1st, 2018
As I thought, he did not make it through the night.
He put up a good fight. I did the best I could but I could not save him.
Good thing is I've learned a thing or two from this.
It's been years since I've had to deal with a sick fish and my first time with flukes.

Lessons learned.
@Dj City You need to use Prazipro on the entire DT: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/prazipro.247598/
This exactly. Two doses 3-5 days apart.

Coral damage.
Monticap got knocked over and was in the sand four about 3 days.
He'd been upright for over a month at this time but not only did color not come back, it looked like this where it was in the sand.

The Monti recovered.
The birdsnest did not.

TIME TO GET SERIOUS
This is the time I began to understand that I'm NOT dealing with diatoms but the dreaded DINOS

I have had this tank running for almost 5 years and I can't beat Diatoms. It's been a constant no matter what I've done.
Over the years I have
Used RO/DI water exclusively
Replaces my sump
Replaced my CUC
Used Biopellets in reactor
Used GFO and Rox8 Carbon in dual reactor
Used GFO and Rox8 Carbon in separate reactors
Upgraded lighting
Reduced lighting time
DO NOT OVERFEED
Hydrogen Peroxide dosing
Vacuumed sandbed
Used Algae Reactor
Set up larger Refugium
Implemented the Triton Method
I'm sure there are things I've tried other things that i'm forgetting.
I am trying a 3 day blackout as I type this but i'm not expecting great results.
I just want this brown stuff on the sandbed GONE!!! I want it GONE for GOOD!!!
Here are pics of this brown/red/rust colored stuff on my sandbed and I want to DEFEAT THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL!
Please help a fellow reefer out with finding a solution to this 5 year old problem.

ROCKSLIDE!
I have had this tank set up for 5 years at this point and I liked how it WAS set up but...
I have a LARGE carpet anemone and a LARGE maroon clown.
The clown decided to try to move corals and rocks. I came home yesterday to large rock on the sandbed.
and a large monticap on the sandbed.
I tried to put them back but the whole structure shook and collapsed I had to move everything on that side of the tank
(No pic of fallen rockwork)

Before rockslide

Since I had to rescape the right side of my tank I figured I would build an overhang.
20180728_193114-jpg.800345

I used hydraulic cement to put 3 pieces of rock together along with attaching the structure to a base. I figured I could build on it from here if I liked it in the tank.

Aug 12th, 2018
And this was the new and improved aquascape.
20180812_120646-jpg.812606

It looks like I have two tanks in one. Left side is densely packed but beautiful.
Right side is spacious, airy and beautiful.
If I can find a balance without destroying the left side, that would be great.

Either that or get used to the new look.

Aug 12th, 2018
I started a whole new build because of this rockslide and all the frags is created from breaking coral.
The pics below went into the 15gal column nano Reef build

I added 20lbs CaribSea Arag-Alive Special Grade Reef Sand. I wanted to add some live sand because I removed ALL the sand and most of the live rock from the tank.

Nov 28th, 2018 I added 15lbs of the CaribSea Dry Aragonite Special Grade Reef Sand. I removed the large corals from the tank and placed them in a tub with tank water, a heater and a pump for circulation. I have the tub right next to the tank so the corals can get at least a little light from the tank.
1543450501175354414279526837709-jpg.902242

Adding the 15lbs of sand to the 20lbs I added previously looks absolutely right! Not too much sand and no bare spots.

One thing that is truly amazing is when you put together a timeline thread like this one, You really get to see just what you have done, when you did it and how short the time has really been.

I felt like I have been battling Dinos for 5 years. In a way, I have but...
Reality says I just started battling this problem FOR REAL at the very end of October.

I ordered an Ozone Generator and a new (used) Skimmer.
Ozone Generator is an
Enaly 200 Ozac-Plus Ozone Generator

Skimmer is an
AquaMaxx ConeS CO-2 In-Sump Protein Skimmer
This skimmer is OZONE SAFE!

Ozone generator should be in the mail today so I will take pics when I get home.
Skimmer should arrive on Monday

How do you like the growstar?

I love it!
You can see in this thread that it ABSOLUTELY does the job WELL and th is Waaaaaaaaay less expensive than the Kessil.

This should be your build thread. Have mods move your stuff to their so you can keep track.

I have a Re-build thread for this tank but, You are right.
This probably should be a build thread.
How do I go about getting in touch with a mod to change things?
I think I need to change the title of the thread to....

"The post set up and progression of the 110 gallon mixed reef tank"

Guess you can tell I watch a lot of BRS videos.
