Hello everyone,

This may be kinda random but I wanted to create a picture thread.
I'm trying to post EVERY picture I've ever posted all in one thread and have a running list from this point on.

I don't know why there is no way to see all pics posted within the forum. But... I don't know how these things work so there may be no way to do it.

Well....
Here goes.

It was suggested to me to run a refugium. I explained my super complicated sump set up and that I had no room for a fuge.

1490392327417-718666912-jpg.500012

From her it goes up through 2 PVC pipes to remote sumps
1490392480386-783136211-jpg.500013

3 remote sumps
First tank has about 3" of sand and live rock rubble. Then it flows to the 2nd 10gal tank that contains the skimmer. The pump for the biopellet reactor is there as well and the outlet of reactor is right next to the skimmer intake.
Then it flows to the 5gal tank that contains live rock rubble and return pump
Like I said...
It's complicated.
14903926558681814698964-jpg.500016

1st is 10gal with sand and live rock rubble, 2nd is 10gal with skimmer and outlet of Bioballs, 3rd is 5 gal with return pump.

I was looking for new lights because the lights I had were NOT getting the job done.
I had were current usa orbit led and fluval sea reef led.

This is what I found...
Marineland fixture.
48" 6 lights. Two mh and 4 t5.

image1-jpg.503924

I got the light for $25 but one ballast for the MH was bad.
I wound up using the Marineland light WITH the Orbit and Fluval Sea LED's.
Orbit and Fluval Sea down the middle with the T5's to the outside.
This worked out surprisingly well!

Fighting HIGH nitrates and what I thought were diatoms and algae.
This turned out to be the beginning of my battle against DINOS though I did not know it yet.
This day was the start of a MASSIVE water change. 1st time using RO/DI water.

Everyone thought it was diatoms and asked about my flow.
This was my return pump at the time.

I have a UV Sterilizer on order at this point. Pentair aquatics Smart UV 40W

I'm glad I was getting the UV sterilizer. While doing my water change, I took a powerhead to blow off the rocks and all this stuff came off and into in my water.
I'd never seen it before. Did not know what it was but I felt sure the UV would sterilize it so it could not reproduce.
I put the magnum 350 on the tank in the meantime to get as much of it out as I could.

It was all over the water column just hanging there suspended in the water. With no flow going on during my water change, this was a weird sight to see.
I took a net and grabbed as much add I could but it was an awful lot of whatever it was. I later learned it was DINOS.

At this point I'm still working on 0ppm.

My levels are...

Calcium.......................460

Granted, these pics were taken after lights out. The 1st pic is what that hammer looked like all day. The others look better during the day but the sad looking one is declining.

The flow in my tank at this time.
My return pump is pushing 1200gph but I also have the two jeabo wp4's with the maxspect gyre and the jecod crossflow.
I had just ordered my new return pump. It's a Jeabo DCT 10000 pump.

I've had this tank up and running for over 3 years at this point.
I've had nitrate issues in the past but they seem to have just about gone away since I started using ro/di water.

The problem I'm having is this yellowish film that develops on the glass. It's thick, it's constant and no matter how much I mag float it, it keeps returning the next day. I can't go two days without having a thick film on my tank walls.

I am not over stocked, I do not over feed. I have more than enough flow. I have a good sump and skimmer. I run gfo and rox carbon. I change out my filter sock every 2 to 3 days. I have good lighting with two led steps and four t5 lights (about 2 months old).
The film is not on the rocks that I can see, just on the glass.
My levels are pretty good at....
Ph..............8.4
Nitrate......5.0
Phos...........0
Calcium....520 (I know it's high)
Kh..............7dkh / 125.3
Mag...........1480 (approximately)

Lights are
Orbit marine led
Fluval sea reef led
4 t5 at I bulbs (3 blue 1 purple)
Skimmer is SCA 302

I decided to build an algae reactor to try to deal with high nitrates.
I had a large Aquatop media reactor that was not being used so I re-purposed it.
I have a maxijet 1200 on it running wide open.

Day 7 of algae reactor
15035887726021637041665-jpg.567514

After adding seachem fusion 1 and 2 last week, I see that I need to start dosing a calcium supplement. After adding the seachem, calcium went up to 460 and Kh up to 9.
My calcium went from 460 to 420 in 7 days. Kh remains the same.
The algae reactor is working! For the 1st time in 4 years, I have 0 nitrates according to the test.
My water parameters as of today
Calcium......................420
Kh/Dkh.......................161.1 / 9
Mag.............................1475 (approximately)
Ph.................................8.0
Nitrate.........................0
Phos.............................0 (according to test)
Salinity........................1.024

Getting ready to tart Triton
I did not have real lights for my fuge (yet). I used the LED strip from the algae reactor that was decommissioned in favor of a larger fuge for Triton.
I moved the skimmer to the fuge section of the sump because the skimmer section is larger.
The Snowflake clown lives in the sump because my large Maroon clown is trying very hard to kill her
Green stuff in skimmer is phytoplankton that was dosed to the tank.

Tank is not clean inside or out. Sand is not clean but I guess I'm not doing toooooo bad based on the coral gtowth between this pic vs. the last pic of the tank that I posted.

I had chaeto and grape growing on purpose but I had hair algae growing around the grape. I removed as much as I could from the "on purpose" algae.
Once this stuff was identified, It got tossed!

I thought I might have to stop using the Growstar ufo light.
I had to switch my sump back to a traditional configuration. I thought the Growstar was going to be too much light for the size of the fuge. I put it over the fuge, turned it on and almost went blind. The fuge has white walls and the power of the light plus the reflection of the light is really very bright.
I had put the Fluval Sea marine and reef nano led light over the fuge for the time being.
