Has anyone seen this before? I have a pink birdsnest coral that developed a bright green undertone. It was pink for a couple months then turned green and I can’t figure out why now. It’s growing and has good PE. What should I be looking for here?

Now with the green:

You can tell it’s grown quite a bit. But it has this weird green tone now.

I have seen at least two major variants of bird nest - a pink and a green. This seems to be something in between. But its very hard to judge with that heavy blue in the pictures and the green can be some adapted fluorescence.

But never the least - it will grow to a wonderful coral with time.

I have a green variant and it’s vastly different to the pink one.

Green variant for reference

There is different species in the Seriatopora genus but the one I call bird nest is Seriatopora hystrix. This species look similar to your first photo but can have both pink. red and green colours. The one in your second photo looks more like Seriatopora caliendrum to me.

Here is some readings

Your birdsnest was bleached and the purple/pink polyps gave it that pink appearance but the tissue was always going to be green. That's a pretty common color morph and the current coloration is how it should look. There is an actual pink Hystrix but that's not one

Bleached? Really?

This coral really doesn’t look great with this green fluorescence. But I’m to assume this is its best most healthy state?

Assuming you mean this one as the second photo. It was sold to me as “jade dragon birdsnest”

Yes, the current photo looks as it should.

Here’s a pic of an old nano tank I had with both the one you have and a true pink hystrix. I also don’t find that one very attractive (color wise) the purple polyps on the green skin make it pretty dull compared to some of the others varieties.

Lower light levels, higher nutrients, and certain trace element levels can all turn a pink Seriatopora hystrix green/brown. Don’t listen to the above about it being bleached in the first photo, that is a healthy coral.

You can clearly see the tissue is bleached in the first post. Never said it wasn’t healthy.. a true pink Hystrix is pink/purple polyps and pink tissue. In poor conditions it might go brown but never would the tissue turn electric green. OPs coral is just a different color variation, not a pink. Posted the 2 side by side for comparison.

Another photo of the coral before it showed signs of turning green. in between two green montis for reference. it really looks like the pink Seriatopora hystrix to me here.
