So I wanna get a pistol and yasha pair. I have some questions. First, should I start a burrow for my pistol shrimp so it’s not just in the open where my clowns might eat him. Or should I let it burrow itself? Also I heard they can make your aquascape collapse because they burrow under the rock and displace sand, also will they kill my hermits and snails? Finally, I have a really dumb question..... How do I transfer it to the tank? I feel like it would get caught in a net. Should I use my hand? Will it pinch me? Sorry about the last question lol

The shrimp will do all of the burrowing needed and more. If worried about your fish just introduce it when the lights are off. By morning he will have a complete tunnel system.

They work fast. Make sure rock work is stable and on the bottom glass or whatever is under the substrate. I would put it in close to the rock you want it under for best viewing. It likely won’t wander far from that unless all of your rock work is connected.

also, they will take anything they can carry into their burrow for building purposes. I’ve seen them take hermits with shells bigger than themselves in and wedge them under the rock.

Unlike Jawfish, a burrow isn’t enough for a pistol shrimp. I made one myself for it, and it quickly rescaled my whole tank. I do not recommend getting one unless you don’t plan on having a unique aquascape/sand-dwelling corals

I think I will make a little island and put it near that so it won’t affect my main scape too much. Good idea?

They are really fun to watch build, and the goby relationship is amazing. Go for it!
